It's time to get real

People .... another month has gone by ... and I'm stuck in that same 3 pound window.  UGH!!! Okay, to be fair ... I HAVE lost 5 inches over all since I started Insanity.  And I know inches are what really matter ... But STILL!!! It's been 5 months since I've really been below this 3 pound window (214-217). Up and down up and down.  The last time I got lower than this was doing the Ultimate Reset in October.  Since then it's been right inside this window, except for a couple of weeks when I got back up over 220.  Now ... if I was down to say 155 or 160 and I just couldn't get my body under that ... I would be totally fine.  I would just chalk it up to "maybe this is just how much my body needs to weigh." But I know 215 can't be my final weight loss point.  It just can't.  Ask any doctor, they will tell you I am still obese.

So ... now what? I have religiously kept my calories to 1400-1600, I eat the healthiest version of everything I can, and I sincerely ask myself before I eat "what is it my body NEEDS to eat" and almost never indulge in any kind of sweets.  I drink 4-5 liters of water every day.  I'm seriously asking ... what else is there? What am I doing wrong?? Anyone who has lost more than 60 pounds ... did the weight just keep coming off or did you hit a plateau? What did you do to break it??

Today I am posting pictures of one of my first Fit Clubs ever and one from today, because I can see a real difference ... and I need to be reminded that it's a journey, and I still wouldn't go back and change a thing.

  1. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but you may be actually not taking in ENOUGH calories and so your body is resisting, thinking it is in starvation mode. I know that many current (high-tech) plans suggest that you have 1 or 2 days in a 7-10 day period where you shock your system with say 2200-2500 calories on that day and then the rest of the days in the lower range. I can say I'm a little scared to go there myself, but it has not been quite such a long time for me and there are other issues for me that I've been fighting against. You might want to at least try it for two times to see if it helps. At this point, it probably isn't going to do damage with all the working out that you are doing.

    1. Thanks for this ... I am going to consider it ... I think I am really going to find out exactly how many calories I am burning every day, and how many I am eating (I even invested in a food scale to be SURE) and I'm going to go from there!!!

  2. That was my thought too, that maybe you are not eating enough calories. Your body has some serious muscles now. Muscles need calories. Serious muscles need serious calories. On my workout video today, Chalene Johnson said you have to eat enough or your body will start to feed on those muscles. Maybe it's time to take your calorie limit up a couple hundred calories. Have you ever worn a body sensor? You may want to see if you can borrow one or buy one (though they are pricey). It will let you know how many calories you are burning in a day and you'll be able to adjust your calorie intake accordingly. I'm guessing, knowing all the exercise you do, the muscles you have developed, and the kids you have to chase around all day, that you burn close to 4000 calories a day. 1400 to 1600 calories is not going to cut it for you. Like Janette said, maybe you should increase your calorie intake for a while. See what happens. You might be starving your increasingly athletic body.

  3. So frustrating! You seriously amaze me with how disciplined you are! My mom also really struggles to lose weight even when she's doing everything right. She found out at one point that she had a sluggish thyroid. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? My mom feels certain this is something that many people in the Durrant clan have going on. She took medication for it for a while and lost weight without changing her diet or exercise routine. Worth looking in to?

    1. Thanks Kristin!! I am almost to the point where I'm going to go get everything checked ... just to be sure ... A low thyroid would be amazing about now :)

  4. I just found your blog. Inspiring!!!! I am at a similar point as you. I started at 288, am now hovering 209-212 for 3 weeks. I have had medical issues preventing my exercise, so I haven't been as worried, just yet. My main issue is body image? I would love for you to write a post about that, and or re share a link if I just haven't found it yet. Congratulations on all of your success!!!
